    Default Learning the lingo!

So, 7 months and a bit to go and I can do little more than the usual grande cerveza Por favor! I know we Brits have a terrible reputation for our capacity or more honestly thoughtfulness to learn a foreign language.

How have other folk coped? What did you find worked for you when learning a language? I actually speak reasonable conversational Lithuanian, the problem this causes is when ever I try to look for the spanish word for something I inevitably pull the Lithuanian one out of the bag instead! Rather frustrating to say the least.

I have a few phrase books etc but getting anything to stick seems almost futile! So, the point of the post, rather than just reccomend another phrase book etc, can anyone share any tips or techniques when it comes to the seemingly impossible art of learning another language!! Oh, and the reason for the Lithianian is the fact I have been living with my Lithuanian partner for the best part of 8 years! Doesn't take Einstein to tell you some will rub off after that long! I'd rather not wait that long for El Camino!

    Labus Box of Frogs,

I see you live in the Tamworth area, find a Spanish restaurant and start using it and ask the owners to teach you, simples.

    Good luck.

    Labas, aciu labai!

Well, we are a little short of genuine Spanish restaurants here in the midlands! I think I know a bar called 'que pasa' might not be the same mind! I doubt I would get a great meal if I ordered the 'menu del dia'. .

I guess it's all about persistence and hard work. So much for a free lunch eh?

I know exactly what you mean. I'm taking lessons - #4 tomorrow - and by the end may be able to ask simple questions, but it's not likely I'll understand the replies. I posted on my Spanish troubles this week: Judy Mayhew
