    Default safety , passport etc.

How safe is it on the Camino ? Do people travel with their passports and cash etc.? Is it possible to leave your passport somewhere for safe keeping? Feel a bit vulnerable , and would appreciate any advice from those who have done it. How safe is it to leave your backpack in the hostels while going out for dinner etc?

    Default General Safety

    Hi Rita,
I would suggest that you keep your money and passport with you at all times. The Camino itself and the various hostels are very safe, so there is no need to feel too anxious.....it's possibly the safest place you will ever be...Peregrinos tend to look out for each other.... No need to worry about your rucksack in the hostel.....people will be too worried to wash what is in their own to worry too much about yours.
    Buen Camino,

    Hi, Rita!

I also worried about the safety before I left, but it is really safe! Of course you should keep money and passport with you, and also the credential, but I never experienced anything bad -or spooky -on my camino. The hostels are as safe as the banks. I also left my backpack in my bunk while out of the albergues without anything happened to it. I heard about one fellow pilgrim who had his walkinpoles stolen, but that was all. When you are on your way, I am sure you will feel safe. The atmosphere is really loveable, and you will forget your worries, I promise you. Worrying about sore feet may be an issue, so walk in your shoes before starting your camino. -And use poles! Buen camino!

Hi there - the Camino is safe. Always keep your passport with you, but carry some cash - I took plastic as well. You will be asked to show your pilgrim;s passport to have it stamped and as verification that you are walking. Buen Camino!
