Re: hi guys!!!
hello
I am just starting my planning to walk the camino and have a question can you camp along the camino

Re: hi guys!!!
There are a few camp sites along the route and Albergues with grounds may allow you to camp, all charged for of course. Camping 'in the wild' is frowned upon/illegal (I think it comes down to the fire risks) , and when I walked in many places campers were moved on by the local police.

Re: hi guys!!!
Hey fellow travellers....
I have a question! I am going to walk the Camino in May on my own... I am a 27 year old female and I guess am a little nervous not having travelled on my own before...
Also, I find there is a theme of asking why you are doing the walk, what if there is no reason? What if life just made the path of the camino meet with that of your life? Can it be that simple?
....Jess

Re: hi guys!!!
Hi Jess,
that is just how it was with me - we were on a collision course from the first time I ever heard of the Camino. YOU really don't have to tell anyone anything you're not comfortable with. If the Camino calls you then taht really is enough!
Enjoy - Buen Camino

Re: hi guys!!!
thank-you for the info on camping, I really don't want to camp at all, it is my friend that wants to. he seems very determined to camp like it will make the trip harder I think he is afraid he may not be able to sleep in a hostle. but we have a year to decide. I read the post and the one thing we would miss out on if we camp is meeting all of the other people... that is what makes a trip into an adventure

When the Hostels have grounds your friend could camp here and you stay in the dormitories- you both then get what you want and the best of both worlds!

Re: Say Hello
Thank you for providing this resource.
I've been aware of the Camino for some time, so when The Way came out, I showed it to my wife and son. Now they both want to go :-)
I'm being furthur compelled to travel though, and offer the story as my introduction.
My 16yr old son's intended life path is a career in the military. He is presently preparing for that goal by pursuing entry to the USMA at West Point. I am very proud of him, but fearful of what military life means for his safety.
Last weekend, several months after seeing the film, it came up in conversation. I was surprised to hear that he had already formed a plan for his walk, or was even still thinking of it. He said that he will walk the Camino before he deploys, goes active, goes to war. His comment and it's implications have captured my thoughts, and so now a "maybe someday" or "bucket list" idea has been replaced with a sincere plan to assist and accompany my son.
I appreciate the wealth of information here and will do my best to read and research before asking the same 10 questions everyone asks.
Peace,
Joe in CT, USA

No surprise there.

As would any parent. Do you know WHY he is so committed to military service to his country ?

WOW.
Joe ... you gotta do it !!! What an incredible opportunity to share with your son, especially a young man so sure of his path. Clearly he wants to walk ... has a plan ... but ... but ... what is his REASON ?
Oh my ... this situation has so much potential for good ! And not just for you learning about your son. It works both ways, mi hermano.

That's ok, every question you ask just gives someone out here an opportunity to share an answer.

.

Glad it resonated with someone. Sorry I missed your trip to Boston.
Nick wants to serve his country, be part of something bigger than himself, and feels he can do it better than the next guy.
He wants to walk because he feels the need to renew his faith before embarking on the next stage of his life.
We're looking at spring break next year for the first trip. If we start 100+ KM out, or start at Roncesvalles and see how far we get, is yet to be determined.
I appreciate the welcome to the community. In some way it feels like a first step.
Joe
