Re: hi guys!!!
Pouring rain where I am today. I went out and walked my dog, practicing, and enjoyed every minute of it! (she says after 1 hr., not 7 or 8!) I can think of nothing other than the Camino. Eyes are starting to glaze over when I walk into a room.

Re: Say Hello
Hi everyone,
Just joined this forum, and finding my way around it, we ( an old friend from the dark ages ) are planning our trip from Pamplona to Santiago, around the end of aug: 2012, we are doing it for a cancer charity, and hope to complete the 400km or so, no I rephrase that, we will complete it! We have books galore and have mapped out the route, so now its getting the backpack on and walking to get used to the load! We still have a long way to go, but well into the training!
Will be back, anyone with any tips, all are welcome.

Much appreciated

Hi Kim,
I am walking the Camino in July, so busy there at that time, but one of my group only gets summers off. Any way, from vancouver, we are flying to London, airtransat. Then British airways to Bordeaux, train to Bayonne, taxi to sjdp. We tried booking on the Ryanair website to Biarritz and it froze each time so we decided to try BA and found it much more user friendly. We fly back from Madrid, again with BA, to London.
I hope that this info helps

Hi everyone, me and Crissy are heading off to walk the walk in late August, from Pamplona to Santiago, sort of getting things together now, and training, so we don't collapse on route! Have had many brilliant suggestion ,advice, and encouragement, so we are really looking forward to it.

Hi David, we are setting off at the end of August, from france to Santiago, and we are very much first timers, so we are getting as much info as poss: although I'm sure a lot of it is common sense, and the determination to do it, at the moment we have started training up the Blackstairs mountains Carlow Wexford borders! as we are both girls in our 50's OK early sixties, and laugh a lot, its debatable as to how long we will take, but we have set aside a month! anything beyond that and we may as well stay there!
Good luck. scoopy. (susi)

Re: Say Hello
Hi My name is Paul, 56 years old, single. I'm from NYC but now live in Ohio, USA. I'm flying to Barcelona on April 22, 2012 and planning on somehow getting from there to St. Jean de Peid. I would like to walk the first day from there and then get a train or bus to Sarria and walk the rest of the way. My flight back to the U.S. from Barcelona is on MAy 4th. I have a few questions that maybe someone could help me with. How do I get from Barcelona to St. Jean? How do I get from Ronsesvalles to Sarria? I would like to stay at places where I could have my own room ( I don't mind sharing a bathroom) I don't need luxury just a little sleep and privacy, any ideas? Btw, I speak Spanish fluently.

The biggest problem I have at present is waiting for 8 months before I go. I may do a shorter camino in the meantime but don't want to spoil the main pilgrimage.
I look forward to making some new friends and contributing to the site.

Hi Ian, wish you good luck with the walk, we are setting of at the end of August/ September, from SJPP to Santiago, and its our fist time as well, a couple of army brats, in their Very early 60's, so we hope that you enjoy it, you would be surprised how quickly the time goes!!

I can't help with advice on transportation, but have read on this and other forums, lots of info on bus travel from one point to the next. As far as accommodation is concerned, one of the best websites I have looked at is mundicamino. I envy you your Spanish because I have none. Anyway there is lots of suggestions for lodging on this web site and it gives phone numbers for many places.

Re: hi guys!!!
Happy New Year to all.
Well, it is now this year that I will be starting my camino (and hopefully completing it!)
I have started filling a few slots in this years calendar and realise that I must decide when to book my trip. I have started ordering any new kit that I will need and treated myself to some decent new walking socks. I am also awaiting delivery of this years edition of John Brierley's guide.
As Hannibal used to say in the A-Team "I love it when a plan comes together"

Thanks, Scoopy.
I pulled a tendon in the ankle a few years back, before a long hike planned in Scotland and made the mistake of carrying on with it unhealed. Since this experience, and physio, I have learned to stretch out my Achilles tendon every day before running or walking and to stop exercise and rest muscles and tendons when experiencing any pain. I add extra additional training time very slowly and every other day. My advice to everyone is to add some kind of stretching to whatever training program you are working on and baby yourself while you are getting stronger. Surprisingly, I have found stretching to increase cardiovascular as well!

Hi, Donna:
I find the planning is a great part of it! So many great things to shop for. See my blog post: Judy Mayhew Our biggest problem is finding a house/dog sitter for that long. I just hate to leave my dog, but I have to do this. Hope she will understand. Also hope I can find a really caring sitter for her.

Re: hi guys!!!
Hi Ian
I decided to do my first Camino at the same time as you (leave middle May and finish mid to end June) having wanted to for years. So like you I am planning and preparing. I want to start in SJPP and go all the way. Like you I am also considering doing a shorter camino in the meantime - read about someone who flew to Coruna and walked the Camino Ingles in a long weekend. Don't think it would spoil the main pilgrimage but might be a good 'warm-up'.
I would really like to do the walk with a companion. Are you interested in joining forces? I live in Exeter, Devon.
Buen camino
Linda

Re: Say Hello
Hi,
We may meet up with you! We're starting at SJPP about Apr 18/19. Just bought most of our equipment yesterday. Can't wait to try it out.

Re: hi guys!!!
Hi Linda, I will now be starting my camino the first week in June as I am now committed to a holiday in Greece with some walking friends at the end of May. It's a hard life!
I am sure that even if you don't start with a companion you will soon find many.
Good luck and buen camino.

Maybe we will see you in July, we are pretty excited to. If not have a good walk!
I am trying to train here in Vancouver but in between windstorms, torrential rain and snow and ice, the treadmill seems to be the option.

Hi, Kristina:
I know what you mean about being VERY exicted. We bought most of our equipment yesterday and I can't wait to try on all my new "tech" clothes. Wore my new boots for the first time today.

Hi, Judy
I am slowly buying equipment, not yet started buying clothes and shoes.
But I look pretty funny when I walk the apartment with a backpack on my back
Outdoors is still cold for hiking...

Re: hi guys!!!
Hi Bryan and Pompey and other fellow travellers,
Hope to see some of you in May. I'm really excited about this new adventure. Saw the movie 'The Way' just two weeks ago, watched it again the following evening, googled the Camino the next day to find out more, and had booked my flight by the end of the week. I'm flying out on the 18th May, starting the Camino the following day from St Jean Pied-de-Port, and hoping to get to Burgos in two weeks. I would like walk the Camino to Santiary in one go but with work commitments it's difficult to take 5 weeks away so decided to split it into 3 separate trips.
I'm looking forward to the challenge, and the solitude (hence my decision to go alone), but also to meeting and making new friends along the way. Roll on May!

Re: hi guys!!!
G'day everyone
Kate from Australia here ... I did post an intro in the forum provided yesterday ... not sure what happened to it ... posted another one and it seems to have disappeared into the ether also ... third time lucky perhaps.
I am planning to do the Camino in 2015 ... I know that seems like a long way off but i get my long service leave then and will be well and truly over spinal surgery I had not so long back (no pun intended ha) ... I look forward to exploring the boards and reading about everyone's journey and get a little more of an idea of what i am in for

Re: hi guys!!!
Hi & Welcome everyone.
Just a quick explication on your first posts. Because of the problems with span the first 3 posts for everyone are moderated. This can be a pain sometimes, I understand that. However I do try every night to make sure everything is published, however there are times like the last week where I was on holiday and I don't do things so quickly.
Thanks
Leslie

Re: Say Hello
Thanks Leslie ... I realized what the process was after I made my 3rd intro post ... apologies for bombarding you ...
I look forward to kicking about here over time and keeping my dream in sight ... so much good info and stories to read!
