    Default Camino in 5 days

    Hi,

Am a newbie as well and would like to start off my camino with a 5 day journey on March 20-24. Would you recommend that i do the initial stage from st jean pied de port or the last stage ending in santiago de compostela on easter sunday? either way, what are your estimates on where i'm likely to end up (for the first option) or where i should start (for the second option)?

    thanks so much!

The problem with the first option is that you end up in the middle of nowhere - well not quite true, you will most likely end up in Puente la Reina or Estella - both are fairly close to Pamplona - so that might be the best place to travel in and out of.

Many when they don't have much time start from Sarria - 112km from Santiago, this then makes it very easy to fly in and out of Santiago.

Really it all depends on what you want to do yourself and what you want to see.

This is exactly the same question I have. I am planning to walk around the middle of June, when my daughter's vaction starts. I would be really interested to know what you have decided and if possible what you thought of your choice after the walk, as it is the first time for me as well. I just am not sure whether I should start from the beginning and come back another year and finish it that way, since I don't have time yet to take so much time out or would it be better just to finish something although it is the "easiest" way and try again another year starting farther away from Santiago. It really depends on what one likes I suppose... but would be interested in other people's opinions.

    hello again,

i've decided to do the last stage, from sarria. have had difficulty finding how to get to sarria though, by bus or by train. is it true that the best way is to go to madrid then take a bus/train to sarria? others i've seen on the web have flown directly to santoago de compostela then taken a bus to sarria (i think this is anti-climactic though). am coming from paris, and am thinking of going to sarria via leon, santander, bilbao or san sebastian. help help please!

    thanks so much.

If I was traveling from Paris I would get the over night train from Paris to Pamplona (I did once) - and sleep to there - and then get the bus or train the rest of the way to Sarria.

Only problem is that it is two days traveling there!

http://www.renfe.es for timetables. 1 train per day from Pamplona 12.36 I think. 8 hours.
    3 trains from Leon, 02.40, 05.40, 16.40. Appx 4 hours.

    Buen Camino Ron
