Most of us carry some form of knife to use along the trail, and in my case I have a small 3" blade kitchen knife with a plastic sheath which I use if I have a picnic lunch or for peeling fruit.

The word "dagger" implies a much larger knife which may be misunderstood by the police especially if it is on display!! The Spanish police do not have much of a sense of humour at the best of times and the Guardia Civil are best avoided altogether.

When you are a guest in another country, it is best not to tempt fate by waving around knives which might draw you to the attention of the authorities.
