Default Pilgrim Auberge in Saint Jean

Does anyone know what time the official auberge is open till at night in Saint Jean? Arriving direct from Paris via Bayonne and want to start the next day.

    Cheers
    Francois

The last train from Bayonne to SJPdP is 21.06 and takes 90 minutes, however, I think this will get you in to SJPdP a little too late to find the Pilgrim office open to get your pilgrim passport, and I suspect the albergues will be shut by then.

There is a train which leaves Bayonne at 18.12 which should mean that you get to SJPdP in time to get your passport and find a bed. The Pilgrim Office will give you a list of albergues.

Most try to get to SJPdP sometime in the afternoon which gives you plenty of time to get your passport, find a bed and go shopping for food items for the next day, and of course, the last minute repacking of your pack!!

The link is to the French group who run the Pilgrim Office in SJPdP and it also has a list of albergues with their contact details.

    Hi Covey

Thank you for your feedback. I guess that makes my decision really easy. Overnight in Bayonne.

I noticed that several people have mentioned a 21:06 train from Bayonne to StJPDP. I have checked the timetable for June 10th., the day I intend to travel, and the last train is the 18:12, which you mention. I guess people need to check the timetable for their particular travel day.

The later train at 21:06 is on Saturdays which is the most popular day for new pilgrims to arrive at StJPdP.

The Pilgrim Office in StJPdP normally closes at 2200hrs so would be shut by the time anyone using the late train arrives.
