Last leg
Hi there,
Myself and my friend are hoping to do the last leg of the Camino (time not on our side to do the whole thing!) and are trying to figure out where's the best "starting" point and a good place to fly into from Ireland or England? Would really appreciate the help! Thanks. Elaine

Last Leg
Hi Elaine,
I'm going to join my Aussie friend on the last leg of the Camino in June.
Not quite sure where I'll meet up with her but plan to fly direct from Stanstead UK to Santiago & take the train (if poss) out to meet her, then walk back on the route into Compostella.
Ryanair make the flight easy & cheap, don't know if they fly direct from Ireland.
I also want to know if I can get my pilgrim's passport & compostella along that last bit of the route - anyone know?
Lynn.

Completely agree with you Lynn - but don't forget Air Lingus - they also fly direct to Santiago.
You can get a pilgrims passport before leaving home from your home confraternity if you join - much easier in Ireland I must say, or in Santiago at the Pilgrims office or in Sarria. Sarria is 112km from Santiago and where many pilgrims satrt from if they only want to do the last part. But most official Albergues (hostels) will issue a passport.

Thanks!
Thanks Lynne and Leslie,
Will probably fly into Santiago so, itseems to be the least hassle overall.
Thanks again,
Best wishes
Elaine

My list of villages mentions Sarria is where most people start from if they want to do the last 100 klm to Santiago.

Re: Last leg
Sarria is the "normal" starting point for those walking the last 100kms which entitles you to a Compostella from the Cathedral in Santiago.
If you fly in to Santiago you catch the bus from just outside the terminal door to LUGO (2 hrs) and when you arrive at Lugo bus station you catch a local bus to Sarria.
The Sarria to Santiago stage is usually a bit of a scrum and there are lots of organized groups of pilgrims. Virtually all those starting from St Jean Pied du Port are "solo" walkers.
The Sarria to Santiago stage is ideal for those who only have a week to spare as you can fly in to Santiago, spend 5 days walking to Santiago, have a day sightseeing in Santiago and fly home ready for work on the Monday morning.
