Weird Food choices.....?

I'm interested to know if anyone else had any 'bizarre' or unidentifiable food whilst on the Camino....everyday was an adventure for me! I ordered my food and waited with baited breath to see what appeared!

Watch out for:

Mano de Cerdo (Hand of the pig) complete with nails!
Fish with eyeballs served seperately
Galician Stew....seemed to be vertebrae

The rest of the food was great....I tried for five weeks though to get a hamburger and only managed it in Santiago! I don't normally eat hamburgers...but they were on most menus but never available .

Given that Spaniards are basically carnivores and don't seem to understand the concept of vegetarianism i wonder how vegetarians fared?

I didn't have any food that was too strange. Most of it was pretty tasty and palatable, especially after a long day's walk. But I did come across a drink that tasted like liquid grass covered in cow dung! It was a local spirit from Galacia ( I can't remember exactly where) made from herbs and then fermented. It tasted foul but had a powerful alcoholic kick to it.

I can recommend pulpo (spiced squid) in Galacia - couldn't get enough of it!

I also met a vegetarian on the Camino. She did have to be careful about carrying some food with her, as the menus didn't cater for vegetarians, but she didn't find it too difficult.
