Is a map of the camino very necessary? If so, where can one be got?

If you are walking the Camino Frances a map is not necessary, it is almost impossible to get lost on this route due to the many yellow arrows helping you along the way.

It is good to know how far it is to the next town and next hostel. Whe I last walked these "maps" where given out along the way from tourist offices and albergues.
