Coming from Madrid

Hey guys!

I need your guys' help. I have from July 19-August 2 to do the camino. I'm in pretty good shape, and I'm plannin on going a lot of miles, but I don't know where to start. Where do you recommend I start and how would I get there from Madrid? I'm really just looking to kill some time and check out northern Spain.

You have two weeks roughly speaking, so I would say you could start in Leon if you're feeling fit and plan to walk 20 - 25 km a day.

However, if you'd rather take it easy and maybe spend a few days in Santiago or even Finisterre at the end, you could start in Portomarin (nearer Santiago).

Maybe it's not important to you to finish up in Santiago. If so, you can basically start anywhere. St-Jean-Pied-de-Port over the French border seems to be a popular starting point for many. It means trekking through the Pyrenees of course!

For travel in Spain, google ALSA for coaches and RENFE for trains (more expensive).
