Default Is Tipping Customary in Spain

    Hi Everyone,

This is my first post and I am so thankful this Forum exists. It makes preparation for the Camino so much easier.

In Canada it is customary to leave a gratutity for just about every service one receives. Could someone tell me what the protocol is in Spain? Are gratutities generally included in your bill or does one generally leave 15 - 20% depending on service?

Thank you for your help. This will help me with my budgeting.

    Tami

In my limited experience pilgrims are not big tippers. And in many places it is not really expected.

Here in Dublin when we go out we would never consider 20% and 10% would be more than enough.

Be good to hear other experience of this as I really didn't tip while on the Camino - for coffee and only small amounts.

Default You should donate in the donation refugios

Irregardless of tipping in the business establishments, you should be contributing in the voluntary donation refugios. I would say a minimum of 5 euros, 10 if you can afford it.

No, in Europe tipping is NOT required. Europe isn?t North America! If you wish to tip good service, by all means go ahead, but you don?t have to and it isn?t even necessarliy appreciated. In Ireland, so people tip as Ireland has become a bit Americanised . At least in North America, you often get good service, as a tip is being given.
