Multi-purpose Pilgrim's Sheet Sleeping Bag Pattern
Hi Everyone,
Over a period of months, I have created a pattern and sewn a silk sheet sleeping bag which is about as multi-funtional as a Swiss Army knife (if I do say so myself). This morning, I have laboured long in Word trying to make it intelligible. I hope it makes sense. I offer it here to enterprising pilgrims as a feeble thank you for all the help the forum has given me.
The idea began when I saw somewhere here on the forum the suggestion of a raw silk square as a towel. I can?t find that post now but the multi-purpose bag concept arose there. Thank you whoever offered that sage advice? I bought the silk from Dharma Trading online as he/she suggested. I recommend their prices, quality and service. Roseallee
Additional notes:
Thanks to Covey for suggesting the corner ties which will keep the base taut on a bunk, thus avoiding 'the twisting it all about you' syndrome endemic in sheet sleeping bags.
I decided to make mine as inviting and feminine as possible as an antidote for possible camino blues. After all, changing the colour doesn?t add weight! So my prototype is salmon pink with an over dyed pattern of interlaced cedar boughs in fawn on the caftan section.
I promise to come back post Camino and offer a review.
Permethrin is not licensed for use in Canada, nor can it be imported. I have soaked it with an acceptable substitute. However, BBugs might not like salmon pink? Roseallee

I would love to hear if anyone else tries this.
Hi Rosealle, I am interested in sewing one of your prilgrim' sheets it seems you are very creative. I am however a little left brained and cannot pictuire the end result. Could you perhaps post a picture of e-mail it to me demmerj@web.co.za

Roseallee
Think you have just created a commercial product.
Particularly for us blokes, whose dads didn't teach to sew lol
Sounds like a fantastic bedding source well done....
If you want to make me one "in the pilgrim way" i wouldn't say no. Am 6'4"
Would reimburse + of course
Re: Multi-purpose Pilgrim's Sheet Sleeping Bag Pattern
The alternative solution is to obtain a single fitted sheet, spray with permetherin or suitable alternative and just carry that. All the bunk beds on the Camino Frances are single size, and often somewhat on the thin side. A light cotton fitted sheet would be ideal for the June - Sept time.
I carry a set of cotton base layer garments which resemble my Grandfathers long johns to sleep in which are ideal, and if a little chilly on occasions I just put on my fleece.
I also spray my rucksack before leaving so the bugs don't have anywhere to hide!
In the UK you can buy a permetherin spray which is a 5 percent solution in most serious camping/trail shops.
For those transiting through London, head for Covent Garden. All the major trail shops have branches there within 200m of each other.

Hi Roseallee,
Just checked out your Pilgrim Sheet Sleeping Bag Pattern, interesting. Would you happen to have a picture of it. I will ask my sister to make it for me.
Thank you.

Thank you for the information about Dharma Trading online. Please can you forward the link to the type of silk that is best for a sheet sleeping bag? Thank you.
