I do have a Twitter account that I don't use very often...BUT.... I think it will be great on my upcoming Camino to reach my friends and family with updates and such!

I am a bit like that with twitter also. I don't pay much attention to it. perhaps facebook might be better for keeping in touch when you come across a computer - so much more can be displayed on facebook.
