Just to thank members of the forum for the answers to my many questions before I walked the Camino,I started from Saint Jean on 23 July 09 and finished on September 6th 09 after 45 Magic days.I had the time to "take my time" fortunately,now that I am back home it is difficult not to think about my experience every day.I would recomend the walk to anyone and you can ask all the advice in the world but you actually advise yourself along the way and you certainly discover yourself and your capabilities.Just do it!!! One of the advantages the "older" generation have is time.

When you are working, it is very difficult to take 30-40 days holiday unless you are changing jobs, or are a teacher with long summer holidays.

The normal plan is 30 days from St Jean to Santiago which is fine if you are young and fit, but being over 60, I allow 40 days to Santiago and an additional 5 days from Santiago to Finisterre.

This gives me time for a couple of rest days in Burgos and Leon and Santiago, and time to see the sunset at Finisterre.

Knowing that you have a few days "in reserve" is comforting when you might want to slow down a little to catch your breath!!
