Found this advert offering PAYGO Sims for use in unlocked mobiles. You can buy the "Spanish" PAYGO Sim before you leave the UK.

The fee to buy the card would pay for a lot of calls on your UK mobile, but if you take your UK mobile to Spain, all your free minutes on your UK contract do not work and the costs of calling the UK is fairly high.

To receive calls from the UK on your UK mobile in Spain, means YOU are paying for the call from the UK to Spain and back again!! My UK T-Mobile contract phone charges me 19p / min to receive calls and 38p/min to make calls back to the UK and 40p per text.

The Spanish Sim charges ZERO for receiving calls and 6p/min for calls to a UK landline and 19p to a UK mobile and 44c per text. There is a connection fee of 33p for a call to the UK. If you plan on using your mobile a lot, it might prove more economic than using a non-Spanish Sim.
