American pilgrims wanted for 2010 Documentary
Message from Rosina:
In commemoration of the upcoming Xacobean Holy Year, a New York-based TV production company is planning a documentary on the Camino to be shown on PBS. The preparations are in earnest, their cameras will be in Santiago at year's end for the opening of he Holy Door and filming on-site will commence early next year. For the purpose, the producers wish to contact pilgrims from America that will be either on the French Camino, or the Primitivo, sometime in February, March or April next year The filming crew will accompany pilgrims part of the way.
A couple in their thirties or forties would be ideal.
So, if you want to be on national TV (or know someone who does) and/or wish to do your bit for the promotion and benefit of the Camino that has given us so very much, do let me know and I'll forward your contact to the producers. This will be, I think, the very first time that a Camino documentary will be produced in the U.S.A.
Recent estimates lead the Pilgrims' Office to expect an average of 1,000 Compostela or Certificate seeking pilgrims next year per day and they will be needing volunteers, preferably with knowledge of Spanish, to help out in all sorts of things.

Re: American pilgrims wanted for 2010 Documentary
UPDATE FROM ROSINA
Because it is not very likely that pilgrims from our shores will be walking the Camino during February, March or April, the producers of the PBS Camino documentary are now also considering filming June and July pilgrims (but no later than July) for their documentary. The reason for the time constrain is that filming must be completed in time for the documentary to be aired in August, or September at the latest.
Please let me know of you will be on the Camino at those times and I will forward the information to the producers.
By the way, they have just completed a PBS-commissioned documentary on the 13 cities in Spain that have been declared to be Universal Patrimony by UNESCO. Santiago is one of those cities, as are three cities in the Via de la Plata: Caceres, Merida and Salamanca.
The Camino documentary, however, will be filmed on the French and the Primitive Caminos.
Hugs!
Rosina
ps. My only connection with the project is to put in touch interested pilgrims and the producers.

Re: American pilgrims wanted for 2010 Documentary
They are looking for a couple, not single people.....I responded to Rosina, but I don't think my story is intriguing enough for them.
Also, I will be walking solo. Oh well, their loss!

I see you edited your original post.....
Sounds to me like the film crew is looking for a traditional practicing Catholic couple.
Where in Canada are you from? Where will you be starting from? I plan to leave around mid-April from St. Jean..... Perhaps our paths shall cross.

Re: American pilgrims wanted for 2010 Documentary
hiya,
Didn't know you'd be able to tell we edited hee hee.
I edited because I was worried that other people would read and question our intentions of doing the Camino or our Spirituality not because of the actual crew's needs or expectations ;0). Glad you commented on it though I was feeling kinda bad I felt the internal need to edit it.
Anyhoo we will see you soon on the Camino hope we do run into you

Re: American pilgrims wanted for 2010 Documentary
CTLOU.....I am not certain of the date yet. Probably around mid-April, I plan to take my time early on, so there is a very good chance our paths shall cross.
wandererkm.....don't worry about editing. I got an email alert that someone had responded, so it had your original post, before edit, in it. I often wonder the same thing about how people will perceive me as well, which is why I am careful with my posts. I learned my lesson when I responded to the inquiry for the documentary.
Heaven forbid I should be a practicing Catholic doing the Camino for spiritual reasons!
(yep, sarcasm)
I truly hope our paths cross. I would love to talk with the two of you and pick your brains about your reasons for doing the camino. I will be the American with nothing identifying me as an American.....
Actually, I will be sporting a maroon Osprey Aura backpack, probably tan ExOfficio pants, grey/yellow Adidas trailrunners....yeah, I've almost got my wardrobe picked out!

Re: American pilgrims wanted for 2010 Documentary
It will be great to cross paths having met online so far away from the original destination. We are super excited with all the planning and such it seems like a long time away but really it isn't.
We don't yet have our outfits picked out but once we do I'll send you an e-mail :0). All I do know is we are packing light... all the guide books suggest only 10% of your body weight... not I'm glad I don't weight 110 pounds :0)... hee hee
Anyway see ya along the way!
