Hi Tony,
I walked part of the French Camino last year and you can get your passport stamped in almost every bar, church, shop and ofcourse at every refugio. I hope you enjoy your camino, I did and hope to repeat the experience next year
Buen Camino

Because I was walking the whole route I only bothered getting my passport stamped at night in the hostel I was staying in, if you get it stamped more often you will run out of space quite soon.
The pilgrims passport is a great thing to hold onto after you have finished. I still have two of mine with the many stamps where I walked on the Camino Frances.

On my second camino, I filled 5 credentials! I got it stamped at every opportunity I could. I also wrote in a journal every day after arriving at the refugio and got that stamped as well. They are among my most precious treasures!

Re: passport stamps
Just a reminder that if you are starting your Camino at Sarria, then you need TWO stamps per day in your pilgrim passport in order to qualify for your Compostella.
One must be from the albergue where you stayed the night and the second can be from any bar/shop/fruit stall etc.
If you start before Sarria, then you just need the ONE stamp from the albergue.
If you want to stay in the official albergue in Finesterre, then you must have stamps from the albergues between Santiago and Finesterre. Shop stamps will not do!

Your passport can be bought from the pilgrimage office in the old part of St. Jean (sign posted) for 2 euros. I bought one 2 weeks ago.

Re: passport stamps
If you come from a country with a "Confraternity of St James" or its local equivalent, you can get one before you leave home.
Brits can apply to: How to get a credencial
There is a link at the bottom of the page to the Confraternities in the USA, Canada and Ireland.
Most get theirs from the Pilgrim Office in St Jean which is up in the Old Town. Amis du chemin de Saint-Jacques de Compostelle P-A
If you get a passport before arriving in St Jean, make sure you still go to the Pilgrim Office for a weather briefing. Pilgrims have died ignoring the advice the office gave out!!

Re: passport stamps
You can get a pilgrim's passport in St.Jean, and ask them to stamp it for you. they register your details and hold them on file for three months, as they presume you will have completed the Camino within that time. You just ask for a stamp in each place you stay, and sometimes churches and bars will give you stamps too. Buen Camino!

Thanks. I finished my camino (800 km) on the 4th July. What a wonderful experience.
