    Default Car parking

I hope to walk the Camino next may and am considering driving from Ireland to somewhere near St Jean.
Do you know of anywhere reasonably safe in the vicinity where I could park my car for the duration and which would be accessible by train or bus afterwards.

    Hi,

    Welcome to the form.

I did the same as yourself and drove to the start of the Camino Frances and left my car there - see here http://www.caminodesantiago.me.uk/fo...-pamplona.html

I left my car in Roncesvalles and it was fine.

I live in Dublin normally, but at that time I was in Vienna for a while so I did not have all the ferry fares to pay...

    All the best.

You could park in St Jean Pied de Port.
This is what they say on the Esprit du Chemin website. (This is the nicest albergue in St jean and a good place to start)

    Parking places

There is a parking place in the Chemin de Saint-Jacques, just before Porte de Saint-Jacques, at the end of Rue de la Citadelle.
Pay attention: during the day it is not allowed to drive inside the walled town. Anyway, you have to park your car outside the city walls.

If you want to park your car for a longer period, to walk (a part of) the Camino from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, there are three possibilities:

    1. a public parking place: this is free, but not guarded. The best option is, to park your car near the sports hall ?Ja?-Ala??. The pilgrims office?s volunteers, or we, can give you directions,

    2. a place at a camping. This will probably cost about ? 1,50 a day. You yourself will have to make the necessary arrangements,

    3. the Renault garage, Route de Bayonne, Uhart Cize (next to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port), tel. (0033) (0)5 59 37 00 57. This will probably cost about ? 40 a week. Keep in mind that the garage will be closed at Saturday afternoon and on Sunday.

    Good luck!

We were considering leaving our car at the Compostela airport parking -- if there is such a thing. That way we would have it close by when we complete the journey. Does anyone have any information on this possibility -- accessibility, security, etc.

There is longer term parking at Santiago Airport:

    Reserva de estacionamento

Seems to cost €5 per day.

We have decided to leave our car at the start of *our* pilgrimage and would like information on secure parking in Pontferrada if anyone has it. Many thanks in advance.

The "official" albergue at Ponferrada is on the edge of a very large free car park about 200m from the centre of Ponferrada. I don't know of anywhere which can guarantee security, but when you arrive you could ask the staff at the albergue. If not, ask them if you can park by their wall.
