MAD-Pamplona-?

I'm arriving in Madrid from the US the morning of Sunday May 17 and return to the US June 21. I am flying from Santiago to Madrid to max out my walk (at 33 days) but I am unclear if I want to start my walk in Pamplona, Roncesvalles, or St. J. I think it will be decided by logistics which is where I could use some advice.

I plan to take the bus from MAD to ALSA Sunday am to pick up a bus to Pamplona (Should I purchase my ticket in advance?). There are several busses departing between 11:00 and 15:00 that will put me into Pamplona around 17:00. Does anyone know the departure time of the bus to Roncevalles or if the bus runs on Sunday? Is it realistic to assume that I could get all the way to St.J on Sunday? Would I need to reserve a room in St. J (or Roncevalles) given my arrival time?

I was looking forward to the Pyranees but the logistics and possible extra gear are making me reconsider. Any feeling on what a reasonable start of walk date would be given my schedule?

You will find bus combinations to virtually every village in Spain. The prices are quite reasonable. I just paid 23Euros from Ponferrada to Madrid. I also recommend you book ahead, since you get assigned a seat on the busses (as in plane rides), and they fill fast.
