April 2009
Thanks for this great site. I lived in Burgos in 2003 after college and consider Spain my second home. Seeing all the pilgrims come through made me want to be a part of the Camino. Unfortunately I was only able to do the last 120K, but I must say, it was magical.
Now, several years later, I've convinced my husband to go. It looks like we can squeeze a total of 3 weeks to go (including travel from USA, etc). That will probably leave 2 weeks for actual walking as I want to show him Barcelona or Madrid as well. I really want us to end up in Santiago.
We're thinking of April 2009, which is when Easter falls next year.
1. Is the weather in April too iffy?
2. Is it too crazy to attempt around Easter?
3. Any suggestions for 2 weeks worth of Camino ending in Santiago? We're open to walking sections and taking the bus for sections.
Thanks!!

I am not a fan of walking sections - I like the idea of continuous walking and therefore I would walk from Leon - two weeks should see you in Santiago.
Around easter every year the amount of pilgrims arriving in Santiago increases dramatically - but it is still way short of the amount in the summer.
As for weather? It could be great and it could rain for two weeks - normal for that time of the year is showers - not much help I know.

Going in April 2009!!
Hello all,
I'm planning on doing the Camino this April and have the same weather concerns. ...mostly regarding temperature and rainfall. Is April the main rainy season, and what is the average temperature on the trail during that timeframe? I hope to hear back from you.. and I look forward to seeing you in April!

hi - ive just joined the sight. ive only got about a week and am wanting to do a bit of it. is there anyone on here who knows about planning for a week? i.e. is it best to get returnflights to santiago and get a train/bus to a start point?
its all new to me - and i wondered what the weather was like but then thought if i dont do this there is always the west highland way which is bound to be chilly and rainy!

April 2009
I am walking in late April through May 2009. I expect the weather to be erratic - could be snow, rain, mud...makes for a challenge, but I know northern Spain is beautfiful at that time of year. I also know there will be fewer pilgrims along the route. The link below has some excellent information on weather - including intereactive stuff.i

(You may have to cut & paste this or try it without the stuff after com.)
I look forward to seeing some of you on the Way!
