I think May-June is the perfect time to be honest. I did a portion of the Camino last year in early June and the weather was great, wasn't overly hot like 30 degrees, but around 20 degrees - 24 degrees. I did around 25km-35km a day at that time and while you do obviously feel the effects of the heat, a lot of the camino can also be in shade, and certainly makes it viable to walk in.
I just looked up temperatures there, and July-August are the hottest months by far and so would be very uncomfortable. Walking in the Del Norte is much cooler than the Francais version, and you can expect much more rain as well up there. May-June are just nice for walking, circa 20-25 degrees, while after August things start getting cooler obviously.
If you find that the temperature in mid-afternoon becomes unbearable, then you can always get up earlier, say by two hours...
