Underwear
Just having completed a 30k training walk in warm conditions both my partner and I developed chaffing from our underwear. Fortunately, the amazing Queensland product, pawpaw ointment relieved the soreness, but we didn't walk again the next day either as we would on the camino.
Is there any suggestions on this problem. I see there's quite expensive coolmax and merino knickers in the treking shops, but will they help? Any experience would be most welcome.

I am using the mens boxer shorts from ExOfficio - Technical, Outdoor,Travel, Hiking and Adventure Clothing, plus Insect Shield Repellent Apparel. Shirts, pants, shorts, underwear and outerwear for men and women I picked them up at a local outdoor store, they are very nice, I have taken them on few long walks and they worked as advertized.
You gotta try stuff and see what works for you.

Re: Underwear
i believe the best underwear to wear for any rigorous (or extreme) outdoor activity should always be a synthetic material as it wicks away the sweat easier... any cotton in your underwear and they will absorb your sweat and rub your skin raw
i trekked to Everst Base Camp last April and had no problems, but knew of some gals who wore only cotton underwear and regretted it! plan to wear all synthetic when walking the Camino this April.
