Statue on Charles Bridge
We just spent the last week in Prague, so first apologies for all those unanswered emails – they are getting done today.
It is the first time that we stayed in a hotel for a full week in Prague, as we normally stay with family, but I wanted more room, and the brothers are all growing their own families at present.
Prague has always been on our horizon as somewhere that we would likely end up living in permanently, but until this last week I was finding it hard to imagine. Last week got me way past that problem, staying in a hotel in the Lesser Quarter with the beautiful old cobbled streets and lots to do and see within easy walking distance made the week the best we have had in Prague since we moved from there to Dublin more than six years ago.
We know one very good restaurant from our travels there, and creatures of habit we are, we ate in that restaurant three evening during the week. This is mainly due to the food being great, the service better than most places, and it being a place the local Czech’s would eat – that last one makes it very reasonable.
That is one of the things I try to do when I travel: eat in restaurants that locals would use. The food, I find, is always better than the higher priced places targeting tourists.
Because I am doing a personal challenge on daily walking we walked round the city mostly, however Prague is an easy city to walk around and most of the main sites are fairly close to each other. My most relaxing day was spent at the Zoo, not a place I go to often. But Prague Zoo is fairly big and I feel less guilty paying to have animals locked up.

Yes, it is too dam small in here

The bridge is usually crowded during the summer
However for me one of the best things about being in Prague during the winter is the lack of tourist. It still has a fair amount during the winter, but much, much less than the summer – which for me can become just too crowded. This meant I could get some good photos without masses of people in them, but the downside of the photos is the sky which is grey a lot of the time. I look forward to having more time to get better at photography as I love using photos on this site and others.
Okay now I will get back to the huge pile in my inbox and reply if you are waiting on a response from me.
Just one last thing, since walking the Camino I notice all those scallop shells on statues and St James churches in all the cities I visit. There is one photo here with the shell and yes, there is a St James church in Prague.
