I have come across some interesting free software on the net. I get into conversation with people and it is often the first time they know about some of it. So I decided a page would be an idea, a good one or not I don’t know yet, I will see how popular it is.
First up is Google Earth. This is great. Visit the Camino de Santiago from the sky, have a look at Santiago or anywhere, the great wall of China, your local neighborhood, really anywhere.
Next there is a whole raft of free programs from google. Some of them are completely free and then there is the likes of Norton Anti-virus which is a six month trial, but six months – not too bad.
Here is the list of them, that I know of just now, they are adding more all the time, when I come across them I will add them to the list, if you know of any more please let me know.
- Firefox – this is a browser, faster and more stable, I find than internet explorer.
- Picasa – photo software, not too bad for a free program.
- Google Desktop – will search your desktop, fast.
- Screensaver – nice little touches when adding own photos
- Norton Anti virus – Six month trial.
- Google Video Player – does what it says.
- Real player can be downloaded here also.
- Google Talk – like messenger, but less intrusive.
- Google antispywear – I haven’t used…I have now – great for getting rid of adwear that gets on your computer.
- Gallery Player – some artwork.
- Google Maps – free maps that can be used on sites, etc
- Google Toolbar – easy for searching, adds to your browser.
- Google Labs – a good place to see what is coming.
- Google Scholar – clip and keep study information all together.
- Personalize Your Homepage – with this you can add a range of information pulled from different sites onto your main page. Have the weather forecast, news headline, lots of categories.
If you have your own web site or blog check out adsense – allows you to put Google ads on your site, adwords – a way to advertise on other sites and in search results, and sitemaps – keep track of how your site performs. Adsense is advertising that you can put on your own site, Check out the adds below from Google. It may only cover the web site cost, but better than nothing. Adwords is where you can set up adverting to bring people to your site or blog.
